How Korean addresses work in English
Korean addresses are written from the largest unit to the smallest — province, city, district, street, building. English-style addresses run the opposite way, so converting is not just romanization but reordering. The converter above follows the convention used by Korea Post for international mail: unit and building details first, then the street number and road name, then district and city, the 5-digit postal code, and finally "Republic of Korea".
Romanization notes
Place names are romanized with the Revised Romanization system, the official South Korean standard, with official spellings applied for provinces and metropolitan cities. Suffixes are kept in the standard postal style: -ro (road), -gil (street), -gu (district), -dong (neighborhood/building), -ho (unit). A small number of businesses and apartment complexes use their own preferred English spellings — when a courier form asks for an exact match, the version on the building or the official juso.go.kr English search takes precedence.
Do I need to translate the address perfectly?
No. International mail is delivered by Korean carriers once it enters the country, and they read the romanized form comfortably. What must be exact are the postal code and "Republic of Korea" (or "South Korea") as the country line.
