Why shipping weights confuse people
US carriers and forms speak pounds and ounces (16 oz = 1 lb); nearly everyone else speaks kilograms and grams. One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kg — hence the messy decimals whenever a customs form asks for the other unit.
Billing weight rounds up
Carriers don't bill exact scale weight: international services typically round up to the next 0.5 kg, US domestic services to the next whole pound. A 1.6 kg parcel bills as 2.0 kg — which is why shaving 100 g of packaging sometimes drops you a whole price tier. And remember the dimensional weight rule: the carrier bills size-based weight instead whenever it's larger.
